Fall Festival offers family fun on Sept. 15
OLYMPIA – Sept. 4, 2018 – The Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia (FOSLS), along with Washington State Parks, invites the public to get into an autumn state of mind — early — at the ninth annual Lake Sylvia Fall Festival.
Autumn officially begins Sept. 22, but the Fall Festival is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Lake Sylvia State Park, 1812 N. Lake Sylvia Road, Montesano. (Driving directions.)
The festival begins early with a pancake breakfast, starting at 7 a.m., served through 11 a.m. Other Festival activities include:
- Trail races at 8:30 a.m. (Half marathon, 10K and 5K)
- Artists’ market, live music, food vendors and kids nature arts and crafts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Kids’ biathlon races at 11 a.m.
- Boy Scout cooking demonstration at 11 a.m.
- Historic talk at 1 p.m.
- Kids’ vintage games at 1 p.m.
- Group kayak paddle and tour of the lake at 2 p.m.
People can register for the races in advance at: https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=56175. A limited number of kayaks will be available for use at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Chehalis Basin Watershed Festival will bring Stream Team activities to the park — fish painting, bracelet making, trivia and displays showcasing the Chehalis River, its fish and other natural resources.
Shuttle service will be available at Simpson Avenue Elementary School, 519 Simpson Ave., NW, Montesano. (Driving directions.) A Discover Pass is required for those who wish to park at the lake. Passes will be on sale at the park.
