OLYMPIA – Nov. 20, 2017 – Washington State Parks, the Cama Beach Foundation and partners invite the public to get in the holiday spirit with a December full of fun, family-friendly activities at Cama Beach Historical State Park on Camano Island.

Winterfest activities take place at various times on Dec. 2, 9, 15, 16, 23, 30 and 31, at Cama Beach Historical State Park, 1880 SW Camano Dr., Camano Island. (Directions)

Winterfest kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 2, when the Cama Beach partners* will decorate trees to be on display in the Great Hall at Cama Center. The trees, as well as the cabins and historic buildings on the beach, will be lit from 4 to 10 p.m. each day in December and can be viewed from the beach or from guided night walks.

The popular gingerbread house-making workshops return to Cama Beach this year from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays, Dec. 2 and 9, at the Cama Center. Interested parties should reserve a place by calling (360) 387-1550. The cost for materials is $15, payable on site. Other craft activities are on the schedule and include holiday toy boat building ($3 suggested donation), swag making, cookie decorating, ornament creating and candle making.

No holiday event is complete without a focus on food and music. The Cama Beach Café is offering both with a dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, featuring the Heartstrings Band. The café will serve up appetizers and beverages with music from the South End String Band from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16. To cap off the Winterfest holidays, Cama Beach Café is also putting on a New Year’s Eve brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 31. Reservations are recommended. For more information and pricing, call the Cama Beach Café at (360) 387-3266.

Winterfest also will include guided hikes and starlight low tide beach walks for those who like to get outdoors, no matter the weather.

To add to the fun, organizers have added the Zombies at the Beach event, complete with an expert zombie face painter, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday Dec. 30. Interested participants are invited to come dressed as a zombie and take their own photos in front of a “green screen.”

Each Saturday in December, visitors will have the opportunity to take home a hand-blown glass ornament, made by local Stanwood artist Mark Ellinger of Glass Quest. Look for clue balls hidden in the park to exchange for the actual glass ornament.

For more information about these and other Winterfest activities, including times and dates, call (360) 913-0253 or visit the Cama Beach Foundation’s website at: http://www.camabeachfoundation.org/winterfest.html.

A Discover Pass is required for day-use visits to the park.

*Cama Beach Partners include Cama Beach Café and Catering, Cama Beach Foundation, Cama Beach Quilters, Cama Beach Gardeners, Center for Wooden Boats, Friends of Camano Island Parks, Sound Water Stewards and Waste Wise.

In addition to the Winterfest activities, the Cama Beach Store will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
