Committee spots open this fall for eastern Washington snowmobilers

OLYMPIA – August  7, 2017 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission invites the public to nominate snowmobilers from eastern Washington to serve on the Washington State Snowmobile Advisory Committee (SMAC).

The committee will have two vacancies this fall, according to Parks’ Winter Recreation Program. One must be filled by a resident of Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Lincoln or Spokane County, and the other by a resident of Adams, Whitman, Franklin, Walla Walla, Columbia, Garfield or Asotin County.  Nominations must be received by Aug. 30, 2017. New appointments begin Oct. 1, for a term of three years.

The committee convenes semi-annually and advises the Commission on program policy, funding priorities and issues related to trail grooming, snow-removal sanitation, education and enforcement. 

The SMAC consists of six snowmobilers, three non-motorized winter sports representatives, one member each from the Washington Department of Natural Resources, Department of Fish and Wildlife and Association of Counties and an ex officio member from the Washington Department of Licensing.

Members are appointed by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, and may serve up to two three-year terms. Travel, lodging and meal costs for the meetings are reimbursed by the agency.
