Discover Passes available in 100 ‘adventure-ready’ Zipcars
OLYMPIA – May 3, 2017— For those who don’t own cars, the dream of a day in a state park outside urban bounds could be just that—a dream.
Washington State Parks has teamed up with Zipcar to make that dream a reality and get the word out about great park destinations. Zipcar is setting up 100 of its cars in urban Seattle as “adventure-ready” vehicles that have a Discover Pass on board for Zipcar members who want to visit state parks.
The Discover Pass is required for vehicle access to parks and other state-managed recreation lands. When vehicle owners purchase a pass, they write in the license numbers of the two cars they will use to access parks on different trips. Those who walk or bicycle into parks are not required to have the Discover Pass.
State Parks has been considering ways to encourage park visits among those who may rent vehicles to take on day trips, and the agency also has been engaged with various marketing partners to promote park visits and tourism. The Zipcar partnership is the first joint campaign with a car-sharing provider.
“This partnership is a natural progression for us in trying to expand opportunities for the public to get out and enjoy parks,” said Todd Tatum, business development manager for Washington State Parks. “State Parks is happy to join Zipcar to cross-promote our offerings on our social media channels and websites— and in the cars themselves.”
