Fifth annual haunted hike is Oct. 22
OLYMPIA – Oct. 6, 2016 –
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and the Riverside State Park Foundation invite the public to attend the fifth annual “Haunted Zombie” hike in Riverside State Park.
The annual pre-Halloween event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Riverside State Park 7-Mile Airstrip, 7903 W. Missoula Rd., Nine Mile Falls. (Directions: http://j.mp/7mileairstrip.)
Touted as the “scariest half-mile hike ever,” the event is open to all ages. Admission to the haunted zombie hike is $10 for adults; $5 for kids ages 3 to 12; and free for children under 2. Adults are issued a flashlight, and youth ages 3 to 12 receive a glow-in-the-dark bracelet as part of the admission fee. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Pets are not allowed on the trail.
The event is a fundraiser for the Riverside State Park Foundation, a non-profit organization formed to support the park. A Discover Pass will not be required for vehicle access to this event. The Foundation is covering the cost.
About the event
At this outdoor version of a haunted house, participants hike one-half mile through the woods, while volunteer “zombies” and hair-raising displays provide the scary atmosphere. Participants should be prepared to walk over uneven terrain and wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing. Trader Joes will be providing complimentary hot chocolate and coffee. In addition, there will be a warming fire attended by witches telling haunted stories of the past.
