The second class is from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, 404 North Havana St, #1, Spokane. (Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/u9yQzY9zne32) Entrance is through the main gate. This snowmobile class takes place during the 35th Annual Snow & ATV Swap Meet sponsored by the Spokane Winter Knights Snowmobile Club.
“The key to safe snowmobiling lies in the operator’s knowledge of the vehicle and awareness of its capabilities and limitations,” said Pamela McConkey, manager of the Washington State Parks Winter Recreation Program. “It also requires that snowmobilers know about weather and trail conditions, show concern for the safety of other winter sports enthusiasts, and have respect for wildlife and the environment. These classes give young people the skills and knowledge to be safe—while having fun—this winter.”
A parent or guardian must sign a consent form for each child registered. Lunch is not provided, so participants should bring something to drink and a lunch. A parent or guardian must sign the child out at the conclusion of the class.
Both classes are sponsored by the Chelan County Sheriff’s Department in cooperation with the State Parks Winter Recreation Program. WSSA is also a co-sponsor of the Puyallup class, and the Spokane Winter Knights Snowmobile Club is a co-sponsor of the Spokane class.
Washington State Parks is responsible for Washington’s snowmobile safety and education programs, which are funded by snowmobile registration fees. State Parks and WSSA place special emphasis on providing snowmobile safety courses for young people and adults.
