OLYMPIA – August 20, 2015 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is looking for winter sports enthusiasts to serve on one of two winter recreation committees—for non-motorized and for motorized winter recreation. Applications for both committees must be received by Aug. 30.
The Washington State Snowmobile Advisory Committee has one position that will soon become vacant. The position is for a snowmobiler who lives in Okanogan, Chelan, Douglas or Grant counties.
The Washington State Winter Recreation Advisory Committee has two positions that will soon become vacant. The positions are for non-motorized recreation representatives (cross country skier, snowshoer, dog musher, and/or skijorer) who live in Kittitas, Yakima, Klickitat or Benton counties (Area 5). Another position is for an at-large candidate to represent the motorized winter sports (snowmobiling) enthusiasts.
Both committees are responsible for reviewing vital issues and advise the State Parks Commission and staff on program policy and funding priorities for snow removal, trail grooming, sanitation, education and enforcement. The committees meet at least two weekends each year, once during the winter and once during the summer. Members are appointed by the Commission and may serve up to two, three-year terms. Travel, lodging and meal costs for the meetings are reimbursed.
The Snowmobile Advisory Committee is made up of six snowmobiler representatives and three representatives from non-motorized winter sports. The Winter Recreation Advisory Committee comprises six non-motorized representatives and three representatives from snowmobile winter sports. Each committee also includes one representative from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and Washington Association of Counties. Also included is an ex-officio member from the Washington Department of Licensing.
Nominations or applications for either committee must be received by August 30. New appointments begin Oct. 1, for a term of three years.
